Langport - Spring In The Firing Range
We'll venture through Langport, Aller Woods, High Ham, and Huish Episcopi.
If the firing range happens to be in use we will instead have to skirt past the man at Nettlebed Cottage who wards walkers off with a shotgun. We'll get a lovely view of Aller Moor on the levels from Aller Hill. We should see blue bells in Aller Woods. We'll walk past Stembridge Mill (the last remaining thatched windmill in the UK) and the Church in the Field at Low Ham.
Suggested visit to the pub in Pitney (The Halfway House) after the walk. Optional visit to Murphys Bar one quarter of the way round. |

Grand Western Canal – Tiverton Parkway to Taunton
We will be catching the train from Taunton to Tiverton Parkway (probably the 0916, arriving 0927, but to be confirmed). The walk will follow the route, or as close as possible, of the Grand Western Canal. We will finish at Taunton train station. The walk is fairly long, but relatively flat. There are also some interesting remains of old canal structures to see along the way.
We will be passing through the edge of Wellington, and so there is the possibility of leaving or joining the group there (connection with Taunton by First bus which runs hourly service on Sundays). Not sure what sort of times this bus service runs- contact me in advance if you plan to do this so we can co-ordinate rendez-vous. |
